[JB] Rectory of St James the Great, East Hill, by S.S. Teulon, 1859, in Domestic Gothic style.  Diapered brickwork.  Although this is not an example of Teulon at his most exciting, he was a major Victorian architect and any building designed by him is noteworthy.  He restored St James's Church itself in 1870-1.; See VCH; Essex, IX;(1994), pp 317-9. [JB]

Ref. in 'Essex' (Pevsner/Bettley 2007, 294).

Forms a group with wall and gate piers.
