Building Name/Street Number:
Diamond Place 11

Diamond Place was demolished in 2006. 11 Maldon Road. This Victorian house was replaced by a five storey block of 12 one bedroom flats. The house was built by Edwin Nunn in 1867, who also owned the Theatre Royal (since demolished). It was called Diamond Place because the rooms were diamond shaped. The garage to the left was once a stable. It also had a ghost. Harding Homes, took yet another of our old buildings from us. J006.

Never felt anything ghostly

Never felt anything ghostly there- quite the opposite! This is where Dr John Steeds used to treat his patients with great kindness and skill. A family home and a medical surgery, a place of healing and affectionate welcome.

This house was once owned by

This house was once owned by my grand-father, George Justin Hearsum, who had a fishmongers' business at 41 Crouch Street -- very close by! My mother lived there for for many years, along with her brothers and sisters. My grand-father sold the house to Dr. John Steeds, who was our family GP.
